📋 Scholarship Description
What services does Bridge2Rwanda Scholars’ Program offer?
The Bridge2Rwanda Scholars’ Program helps prepare and equip African students to compete for international scholarships to study abroad. Bridge2Rwanda’s 16-month Leadership Academy addresses five primary areas designed to prepare students for academic success and meaningful lives and careers in Africa:
- Academic preparation – Improve English language skills (vocabulary, reading comprehension and writing), critical thinking, problem solving and admission test scores.
- Personal development and leadership training – Encourage a purpose-driven life and service to others. Teaching the heart and mindset of effective leaders and entrepreneurs.
- Community service projects – Facilitate student-initiated projects to address real needs in the Rwandan community. Teach scholars to recognize their capacity to make a difference and to seek opportunities to serve others throughout their lives.
- College counseling – Navigate the global university admissions process. Equip scholars to share their stories and serve as ambassadors for their countries. Prepare scholars for the challenges of living and studying in a foreign country.
- Career counseling – Provide personal vocational assessments, industry visits and career counseling regarding Africa’s growth sectors, employers and professional opportunities.
Scholarship Objective
The mission of the Bridge2Rwanda Scholars Program is to build a fellowship of globally-educated young leaders in Africa with the capacity to transform their communities and accelerate growth in their country. The program selects the most talented high school graduates, helps them earn scholarships to study abroad, and equips them to launch their careers back in Africa. Since 2011, Bridge2Rwanda has helped 262 African students from Rwanda, Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan earn over $64 million in scholarships to 84 of the top universities around the world.
Scholarship Location and Period
For the first 16 months of the program, Scholars immerse themselves in B2R’s rigorous Leadership Academy located at the B2R Training Center on the campus of the University of Rwanda – College of Business and Economics in Kigali. Scholars are required to make a full-time commitment to the Leadership Academy without any guarantee they will be awarded a university scholarship. In addition, they sign a written commitment that if they are awarded an international scholarship they will return to work in Africa after their university graduation. In addition to academic performance and English language skills, the selection process considers leadership potential, people skills and the student’s desire to make a difference in his or her country
Scholarship Benefits
B2R Scholars make a full-time commitment to the Leadership Academy (24 hours/7 days a week for the first 12 months) without any guarantee that they will receive a university scholarship

Who is Eligible?
Bridge2Rwanda only accepts recent high school graduates who are 21 years old or younger.
Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
Currently, only applications of students from Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Burundi, and South Sudan are accepted

Criteria for Rwandan Applications
- The following information will help you understand our program better before submitting your application. Please read carefully.
- The Scholars Program is for students who are currently in Senior 6 or who have completed their Senior 6 year in 2020. Students who are currently in Senior 4 or Senior 5 should apply to Isomo Academy.
- The Scholars Program is designed to help Scholars prepare for development and employment in Rwanda by improving their English skills, preparing for university rigor, and applying to international universities.
- This is a 10-month program beginning in August 2021 and ending in June 2022.
- This is a residential program, and all B2R Scholars live together in a dormitory for the first 7 months of the program.
- All Scholars are required to return to Africa for at least 3 years for a career after receiving their undergraduate degree from a university.
- The Scholars Program does not guarantee a university scholarship – all results of university acceptance and scholarship offers will depend entirely on the performance of the Scholar.

Scholarship Application Process
Application is done online
The Evaluation and Selection process
- The first step in the process is completion of the application online.
- All applications are reviewed, and the applicants with the strongest applications will receive an invitation to come to the B2R Center for a group interview and an English test.
- If an applicant passes the group interview process and scores high enough on the English test, he or she may be invited to attend an individual interview.
- Selection decisions are made after the second interview phase is completed.
